FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Our School

In this section, you will find answers to the frequently asked questions about our Spanish and PCE courses. Here, we address all your concerns related to methodology, course booking and cancellation, refund procedures, as well as details about accommodation and your arrival in Valencia. Our Spanish and PCE program is the result of a collaboration between two entities: La Llibreta, responsible for PCE classes, and Taronja, which handles Spanish classes and is an accredited Cervantes center. Each operates from its own space.

This section is dedicated to clarifying the most common questions. Please note that, although we collaborate closely, each company independently manages its respective PCE and Spanish classes.

Spanish Course

What is the methodology used in our course?

Classes are taught entirely in Spanish using a communicative approach. The main goal is for students to acquire communicative competence: to be able to write in Spanish in different types of register, to speak Spanish, and to understand written and spoken Spanish. In other words, to master all the Spanish language skills. For this reason, our classes are structured to achieve these goals while learning grammar, phonetics and vocabulary.

In our classes we encourage people to participate and stay motivated. Thanks to our pair and/or group interaction activities, students are able to be more fluent and correct when using their Spanish. Not only will you learn Spanish, you will also have an enriching experience, get to know our culture and make good friends. We want you to enjoy each class.

What additional options do intensive Spanish courses offer?

In our program, we offer intensive Spanish courses for all levels, consisting of 20 sessions per week designed to maximize your learning. Living in Valencia and immersing yourself in its culture will help you master Spanish in a more natural and effective way.

When you enroll in our courses, you will also have the opportunity to participate in 5 sociocultural activities every week, enriching your learning experience.

Additionally, we offer the option to complement your studies with conversation classes and/or private lessons, adapting to your specific needs.

How long does a Spanish session last?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. If you enroll in an intensive course of 20 sessions, you will benefit from 16.67 hours.

When does the course start?

If you’re not starting from scratch, you can begin your Spanish course at any time by joining a group every Monday throughout the academic year.

If you’re a beginner, you generally have the opportunity to join 2-3 times a month.

By taking a placement test, we can recommend the exact dates that are most suitable for achieving your goals. Contact us for more details.

If you’re planning to take a PCE course, we suggest reaching a B1 level in Spanish before it starts so you can easily follow the classes.

How much is a Spanish course?

The cost of Spanish courses varies, and we offer progressive discounts based on the course duration. You can choose from short-duration courses (up to 7 weeks) and long-duration courses (8 weeks and beyond). Details about the prices can be found on the specific course pages.

What is the schedule of an intensive course?

Our schedules are rotating. Some groups will have classes in the morning on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while other groups will attend in the afternoon on those days. These schedules change weekly, ensuring that all students have 2-3 free mornings and 2-3 free afternoons each week.

What is the recommended level of Spanish to take the PCE course?

It is recommended to have a minimum level of B1 in Spanish to enroll in a PCE course. During the course, you will be in constant contact with the language and its specific vocabulary, which will allow you to further improve your communication skills. Below is an approximate equivalency table showing the estimated time to reach different levels of Spanish, depending on your initial level:

  • From A0 to B1: 35 weeks of Spanish classes.
  • From A0 to B2: 55 weeks.
  • From A1 to B1: 20 weeks.
  • From A1 to B2: 30 weeks.
  • From A2 to B1: 15 weeks.
  • From A2 to B2: 25 weeks.
  • From B1 to B2: 10 weeks.
How many students are there per class?

The maximum number of students per class is 12, and the minimum is 4.
If the number of students per class is less than 4, the school will reduce the number of class hours to half of the total.

How old are the students?

The average age is between 18 and 30 years, although we have students of all ages, which greatly enriches the sessions.

What do I have to bring to class?

You will need a notebook, pen or pencil (or digital device) and a strong desire to learn. 😉

For levels A1, A2, and B1, study materials are included in the price and will be provided in class. Levels B2 and C1 require a book, €24.

PCE course

What is the methodology used in our course?

Our methodology for PCE courses is based on the following pillars to ensure meaningful and effective learning:

  • Comprehensive Learning: We make sure that students understand what they learn and can relate it to other knowledge.
  • Accessible Approach: We explain the theory from scratch, allowing anyone to understand it. If there are advanced students, we use strategies to keep them engaged and challenged.
  • Intensive Practice: We conduct numerous exercises similar to the PCE exam to make you feel confident on the day of the test. We have a large bank of sample questions and solved past exams in the virtual classroom.
  • Exam Simulations: We regularly conduct exam simulations to assess your progress and familiarize you with the format of the tests.
  • Dynamically Engaging Classes: Our classes are lively, and we use various strategies to make learning fun and maintain the pace of the class.
  • Individual and Group Work: We combine group and individual work, dedicating exclusive time to each student to address their specific needs.
  • Virtual Classroom: In addition to face-to-face classes, you will have access to the virtual classroom with all the materials, explanatory videos, and solved exams from previous sessions. If you miss a class, you will find what was explained in the session in the class forum. You will also have a forum for questions to address any concerns.

These elements make up our teaching methodology, ensuring that students are well-prepared and confident to face the Specific Competency Tests (PCE).

Between 17 and 25 years old.

What do I have to bring to class?

Notebook, pen or pencil, and a strong desire to learn. 😉

In some courses, they may ask for special materials like a calculator, ruler, compass…

If you have opted for digital materials, we recommend that you bring a computer or tablet to follow the course. If you have chosen printed materials, you will receive them on the first day of class.

What material is used in class?

In our school, we use proprietary and specialized material for the Specific Competency Tests (PCE).

How can I pay for the course?

The course is paid monthly in cash, through a private online payment, or by direct debit if you have a Spanish IBAN.

Spanish + PCE courses will be paid in a maximum of two payments, one for half of the total amount before the classes start and the other half at the beginning of January.

Do I have to do a level test?

Unless you are starting from scratch, we recommend taking the online placement test.

When does the course start?

If you are a beginner, Spanish courses start on specific dates. There are generally 2 to 3 options per month. Get in touch with us to find out the exact date.

If you already speak some Spanish, once we have assessed your level, you can join your course on any non-holiday Monday.

I need a student visa. What do I have to do?

If you need a student visa, start by inquiring at the nearest Spanish embassy or consulate in your place of residence, as the requirements may vary depending on your country of origin.

Regarding the certificates for the visa: if you enroll in only a Spanish course, Taronja, our collaborating school, will issue the necessary certificate. On the other hand, if your choice includes both Spanish and PCE, both certificates will be jointly managed by La Llibreta and Taronja. It is worth noting that La Llibreta is a collaborating center of UNED, and Taronja is a Cervantes accredited center.

Keep in mind that the visa issuance process can take time, so we recommend starting this process at least 3 months in advance.

It is your responsibility to meet the visa requirements. La Llibreta Academy does not assume responsibility in case of visa denial.

If you require assistance or assistance in obtaining your visa, we have an external administrative management service. You can check the available services and fees here.

What if I want to cancel my registration? Do I get my money back?

We understand that unexpected situations can arise, so as long as you notify us in writing (in Spanish, English, or French) at least 15 days before the start of the course, we will refund the money you have paid in advance via bank transfer. You should notify us by email. If you made a reservation for €50 through online payment, we will deduct the bank commission, which is approximately €2.

However, the advance payment of €100 for student visa processing and any shipping costs for the visa will not be refunded in case of cancellation.

Money paid in advance will also not be refunded if the course is canceled less than 15 days before its start.

What if I don’t get a visa?

La Llibreta will not be held responsible, so it is very important to ensure in advance that you meet the requirements. If your student visa has been rejected, inform us (at least 15 days before the start of the course) and you will be refunded the deposit.

The 100€ management of the registration certificate and the additional costs of issuing it will not be refunded.
